My aim is to crowdfund 25 telephone boxes in and around the Maidstone area for 2-4 weeks beginning 1st February 2017. This public message is to local residents, Maidstone Council and to the Chequers Centre. I want to build public pressure to trigger the immediate provision of designated smoking areas so that my baby and myself do not need to inhale dangerous second hand smoke when entering or exiting Chequers Shopping Centre. I have pre-selected the sites I want to target and have a variety of poster designs ready. All I need now is your backing to make this happen.
CROWDFUND 25 MAIDSTONE TELEPHONE BOX ADVERTS
By raising a minimum of £4,000 we can place posters (like in the mockup image below) in 25 telephone boxes in and around the Maidstone area for 2 weeks. This will reach approximately 100,000 people over this period and will send this message loud and clear to local residents, Maidston Council and Chequers Centre.
As a mother of an infant and frequent visitor of Chequers Centre, I am appalled at the fact that every time I enter or leave Chequers Centre, I, and my baby, are forced to walk through a carcinogenic cloud of second hand cigarette smoke. I see a combination of mall workers and shoppers smoking just outside the doors making it impossible to walk in or out without being affected by the smoke.
I understand that this is an addiction and many people can’t help themselves. They have a physical, mental and emotional need to smoke regardless of the harmful side effects. My concern is with myself and my new born child and I am sure other people feel the same frustration that I do. We choose not to smoke for a reason; our health. We don’t want to be forced to breathe in someone else’s addiction risking our health in the process.
I don’t blame the smokers as they are just doing what smokers do. I blame Chequers Centre as they have not provided a designated smoking area giving smokers a place to smoke whilst giving non-smokers the ability to enter and leave the shopping centre without having to inhale dangerous chemicals and cancer causing carcinogens.
Other shopping centres have designated smoking areas, why doesn’t Chequers Centre?
